Welcome to the website of the Arizona State University Trombone Studio. Here you will find extensive information about our program, the syllabi for our trombone related courses, and links to resources for trombonists and other musicians. At the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, I announced my intention to retire from my position as ASU's Trombone Professor at the end of the Spring 2016 semester in order to devote myself to writing several books, engage in several kinds of creative musical activities and spend more time with my family. My years at ASU have been rich and it has been a privilege to work with our talented students, dedicated faculty and supportive administration. I am very pleased that Dr. Brad Edwards, currently Professor of Trombone at University of South Carolina, will be succeeding me at ASU beginning Fall 2016. Our admissions process for Fall 2016 has recently concluded and we will have a very impressive group of students coming to ASU to begin their work with Dr. Edwards this fall. Please note that this website will be redesigned by Dr. Edwards and will relaunch over the summer. I want to offer my thanks to all who made my time at ASU so rewarding and I look forward to continuing to celebrate the successes of our students and the ASU Trombone Studio in the years to come.

Professor of Trombone

Think About It

"Creative expression in all its forms is our highest goal. In the New American University, no distinction will be drawn between the creative expression of the artist and the physicist, or the musicologist and the long distance runner – all forms of creative expression are held to be of equal value, and academic honors are secondary returns to the intrinsic reward of creative expression itself."

— Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University, September 30, 2014.

Our Mission

Our mission is to establish the ASU Trombone Studio as the best, most significant, consequential, interesting, satisfying, and important place on earth to study trombone. Any questions?
